ALU DOME AMSTERDAM
Circular construction: started as secret project; 14.11.2017
Psst… we had to keep this secret for a long period. According to a study at Colombia Business School, most people have on average 13 secrets. At APR, we just had one in 2018 and it’s as much as we could we did not talk about it. Since we are so very proud about this completed project: it was the pinnacle of sustainable and circular construction. Although we were not allowed to talk about it, it really is amazing what we achieved. We were rewarded with the opportunity to rebuild the dream of a well-known architect (from the American Architect and Professor Richard Buckminster Fuller developed by Temcor in cooperation with Kaiser Aluminium from Los Angeles) and give it a new destination in life.
Thousands of square meters
Now we can give you a peek behind the veil… We worked on a large building with an area of around 3,000 square meters. It has a unique shape and we re-used the materials from 1970. In the old days the roof was known as the roof of the Aviodome the Dutch Aviation centre at Schiphol airport, now the building we made will live further under the name Amsterdome. The building has a Pentagon dimension of 59.4 meters (195 “), the geodetic aluminium dome roof has an inner radius of 34.1 meters (112”) and a height of approximately 23 meters.
Sustainable reconstruction
What we already could tell you before. That we were asked to commence this project since we are good at sustainable reconstruction works. And that circular construction holds no secrets for us. If you can’t contain your curiosity, then contact us.
